A western Massachusetts man faces murder charges after shooting through his door and killing a teenager who showed up at the wrong house.
Jeffrey Lovell fired one shot after Dylan Francisco and a friend began knocking on the side door of his Chicopee home on Saturday afternoon while looking for a buddy, according to authorities
The 42-year-old opened fire after a pane of glass broke, hitting 15-year-old Francisco in the chest, according to the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office.
District Attorney spokesman James Leydon told the Daily News that the pane of glass was part of the door itself, and that Lovell fired through another pane in the entryway.
He did not have information about what type of weapon the suspect used, but said that he owned it legally.
Prosecutors said that Francisco, who according to his Facebook attends Chicopee Comprehensive High School, and his friend had been drinking alcohol in the neighborhood before becoming confused and ending up at the wrong home.
Lovell was arraigned on murder charges Monday and has been denied bail until a court hearing on August 19. Final charges will be determined by a grand jury process.
Leydon said that more than 10 family members of Francisco showed up at Monday’s hearing about the death of their loved one.
A GoFundMe page for the family had raised $1,620 as of Monday afternoon.
