Bronx boy, 5, struck by speeding SUV is recovering, father says

The 5-year-old Bronx boy who was hit by an SUV driven by a man with a suspended license is very much on the mend, his father said Friday.

Jahdiel Cabrera has been moved out of the intensive care unit but is still being treated at the New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, his dad Anelkys Cabrera told the Daily News.

Jahdiel darted from the courtyard of a building on Timpson Pl. near E. 149th St. in Mott Haven just before 4:20 p.m. Tuesday when the speeding white Ford Explorer hit him, police said.

"He's doing a lot better now," Cabrera said. "He has a 8-inch-long, 3-inch-wide scrape on his right leg, and a bruise on his liver. The doctors believe the liver will heal on its own."

Cops charged the driver, Joseph Demola IV of Hillside, N.J., with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, and violation of vehicle and traffic law, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s office.

"There's no one to blame on this," Cabrera said. "I'm really humble and happy that he is getting all this support. He is so loved."

Demola is due back in court on Oct. 25.
