Father of Fla. teen calls bite attack 'biggest nightmare'
John Stevens, 59, and his wife Michelle Mishcon, 53, died in the attack, and Harrouff, 19, had begun biting Stevens' face by the time deputies arrived at the scene, authorities said.
Austin Harrouff's personality changed in the weeks before the encounter — and he was exhibiting "manic behavior" on the night of the murders, his father said.
"I'm deeply sorry for what my son did to those people. And I'll apologize for him … because my own son would have never done anything like that ... He's such a good person," the devastated dad told Dr. Phil, wiping tears from his eyes. "He would never knowingly do something like that.
"I'm truly sorry to those people."
Wade Harrouff believes that his son's violent Aug. 15 attack wasn't induced by flakka or other hallucinogenic drugs.
There were no traces of cocaine, marijuana and meth in the teen's system following the attacks, and test results for other drugs haven't been completed.
The 19-year-old remains hospitalized, and some of the son's organs are failing, the father said.
The Dr. Phil segment is scheduled to air on Sept. 7.
