This isn’t the octagon.
WWE SummerSlam came to quite a bloody conclusion as Randy Orton was treated by doctors after a barrage of elbows from Brock Lesnar.
“WWE.com has learned that Randy Orton received 10 staples to close a laceration on his forehead following the brutal assault by Brock Lesnar that resulted in a TKO at SummerSlam,” the wresting giant said in a statement.
After the match was called off by the referee, Lesnar — who also fights in the UFC — lingered over Orton as the mat turned red.
The occurrence has left people wondering whether Lesnar intentionally injured Orton.
The fight ended before it was supposed to — thanks to Lesnar’s blows — but concerns have been raised because of the uptick in head injuries.
Video shows Lesnar delivering a harsh downward elbow to Orton’s head as the wrestler being trounced tried to cover up.
Medics attempted to treat Orton as Smackdown’s general manager Shane McMahon appeared in the ring to alleviate some of the mess. To this he received Lesnar’s popular F-5 move.
While Lesnar seems to have confused WWE with UFC, some suggest that a nascent feud between the two fighters spurred the vicious elbows.
According to Independent, Orton referenced Lesnar’s failed drug test during a stint in the UFC when Lesnar appeared at UFC 200, fighting Mark Hunt. (Lesnar failed two in-competition drug tests.)
The WWE has not released an additional remark.
