Rupert Grint loses $1.3 million in tax refund case

Accio, money?

Actor Rupert Grint has lost a whopping $1.3 million after a tax judge rejected his appeal for a refund, the Guardian reported Tuesday.

The "Harry Potter" star had been involved in an ongoing battle over the tax on his earnings from the magical franchise. A judge rejected his appeal claiming his income should have avoided a higher tax rate due to a change in accounting dates.

The 27-year-old apparently turned to tax advisers who suggested he file 20 months of income for the year 2009-2010. This would have prevented his money for the following year to be affected after the top rate for tax in the U.K. rose from 40 percent to 50 percent.

Grint didn't change the date and instead went to court to argue his case and seek a refund for the ten percent loss.

The hike resulted in the additional loss of $1.3 million. He's believed to have fetched $31.2 million from his work as Ron Weasley.

During the hearing, the famous red-head admitted his knowledge on financial matters was "quite limited" and he relied on his father and accountant to oversee his accounts.

The tax increase was abolished two years later.
