Emily Blunt considered too pretty for 'Girl on the Train' role

Actress Emily Blunt is too pretty to play the lead in “The Girl on a Train.”

That’s what the book’s author, Paula Hawkins, seems to think about the star who will portray the main character in the film adaptation, which hits theaters Oct. 5.

The beautiful 33-year-old star was made to look “a bit s--t” to play the part of Rachel Watson, an overweight alcoholic divorcee who pines for her ex while becoming embroiled in a murder mystery, Hawkins told the Daily Mail.

Fans of the book criticized Blunt’s casting in the screen adaption, deeming her too good looking to take on the gritty role.

The English-born actress told Deadline that the movie is about a “very damaged woman.”

“I just love that it’s about addiction and loneliness and voyeurism and what we think we see and don’t see…I love that your heroine, your lead character is the most unreliable witness in the world because she’s a drunk.”

Blunt is married to “The Office” star John Krasinski and they have two children. She discovered she was pregnant with her youngest daughter, Violet, while filming the movie.

“The Girl on the Train” has been an international best seller with over 4 million copies sold in the U.S.
The movie also stars Justin Theroux, Haley Bennett and Luke Evans.
