Man who killed Army soldier wife wanted by FBI with $5G reward

A 27-year-old man charged with murdering his wife, an Army soldier, in their home on a North Carolina base is wanted by the FBI.

The feds announced a $5,000 reward Friday for information leading to the arrest of Jason Earl Armstrong, Jr. in connection with the July 1 killing of his wife Iris Armstrong, 24, at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville.

The victim was found stabbed and beaten five days later, and coroners ruled she died from sharp and blunt force injuries, according to documents obtained by the Fayetteville Observer.

Investigators believe the wanted man used his wife’s debit card shortly after murdering her, and they released a security camera image of him sitting in a car and using an ATM.

Agents described the suspect as 5-foot-11 to 6 feet tall and between 150 and 160 pounds. He’s wanted on a federal murder warrant and considered armed and dangerous.

The feds said Jason Armstrong has connections to Atlanta, Ga.; Houston, Dallas and Amarillo, Tex.; Columbia, S.C.; Los Angeles and Orange County, Calif.; New Orleans and Phoenix.

Any witnesses who spot him should contact their local FBI office or dial 911 rather than approaching him, according to the FBI. A spokeswoman for the agency's Charlotte office said he had not yet been captured Monday morning.
Specialist Iris Armstrong, a fourth-year soldier, served as a human resources staffer for the 189th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion in the 82nd Airborne Division, officials in the unit said in a statement July 8 announcing her death.
Armstrong is survived by the couple’s 5-year-old and 1-year-old sons, according to her obituary. Her family scheduled a funeral service Monday in Columbia, S.C., her hometown, to be followed by a ceremony at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
