Emmy Awards adds to ‘Game of Thrones’ golden hoard

Wild horsemen couldn’t drag “Game of Thrones” from its coronation at Sunday night’s Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.

The HBO fantasy series notched best drama honors for the second straight year — nabbing its 38th and breaking the record for most Emmy wins held by “Frazier.”

“Thrones” also added writing and directing nods to this year’s treasure hoard, which already included nine creative arts Emmys handed out last week.

The “Game of Thrones” cast was shut out of the drama supporting acting categories as voters deemed Maggie Smith of “Downton Abbey” more their cup of tea than the three “Thrones” actresses competing against her.

And Ben Mendelsohn, in “Bloodline,” usurped the supporting actor title from Kit Harington and Peter Dinklage.

The first award of the night, for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy, went to Louie Anderson for FX’s “Baskets.” “Saturday Night Live” star Kate McKinnon won her first Emmy as outstanding supporting actress.
